About Me

I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Michigan University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Michigan as well as a National Certified Counselor. I have completed post-graduate training as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and am currently engaged in Complex Trauma Certification Training which will qualify me as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II (CCTP-II).

My primary theoretical orientation to therapy is person-centered. I also draw heavily from CBT and relational/psychodynamic perspectives. “Trauma-informed” means that—no matter what therapeutic perspectives and interventions I employ—I remain aware that the root causes of current struggles frequently lie in painful experiences from our pasts.

To heal trauma I work with a phase-based, relationally-focused integrative treatment model that incorporates all the most up-to-date, research-based approaches.

These modalities bring together my core beliefs as a counselor:

  • You are the expert on your own life

  • Your unconscious beliefs and automatic thoughts heavily influence your emotional state

  • You have the power and choice to rewrite your life story

  • True freedom comes from letting go of the things you cannot control

My core values are authenticity, connection, and self-trust. Scroll down to learn more.

  • Every day, make a tiny agreement with yourself and follow through with it. You'll start to see yourself as a person who honors their word, even when no one's watching. And that's what creates true self-confidence.

I became a therapist to help others with the same issues I struggled with.

Have you tried therapy before and it didn’t help?

I have also been there—many times.

I was an extra-sensitive, introverted kid with my nose always in a book. I was shy, anxious, and socially awkward. Growing up, I experienced adverse circumstances that caused trauma and pain. Depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem were my constant companions.

Over the years I tried therapy repeatedly— but it never seemed to help.

I felt my therapists were just scratching the surface, focusing on symptoms rather than causes, and offering unhelpful advice. For example, in advising me on strategies to combat my severe anxiety, one counselor said, oh-so-insightfully, “You just need to learn how to relax!”

You may have tried therapy and found that it didn’t live up to its promises.

Maybe you wonder why you should bother trying again.

I hear you!

I felt the same way. But then I finally found real healing through several amazing therapists who used trauma-focused techniques that dug deep—far below the level of my symptoms—to root out the true source of my struggles.

That experience transformed my life and ignited a passion to become a therapist who was educated and equipped to extend that hope and healing to others.

What I hear from my clients is that therapy with me feels different than most of their previous counseling experiences. I meet my clients as equals, view them as the experts on their own lives, and offer a therapeutic relationship that is restorative, caring, accepting, and empowering.

I will really listen to you—but I won’t stop there. We will thoroughly explore your life story to locate the source of your struggles and target them for treatment. I will establish a safe, nonjudgmental space where together we will heal the deep wounds of your past. I will equip you with knowledge, perspectives, and tools that will allow you to get back to living your best life more quickly. I know therapy can be expensive so my approach is strategic, focused, and efficient.

You may be thinking, “I don’t have time for therapy!”

Let me ask: what is most important to you?

I’ll bet it’s your family…your kids, partner, or maybe someone else who means the world to you. I’m guessing you want more than anything for them to be happy, fulfilled, and healthy—even more than you want that for yourself. The best way to make sure the people in your life get what they want is to become the best version of yourself.

Or, just maybe, you are sick and tired of being sick and tired and are ready to heal just for you.

I urge you not to wait.

Let me help you rediscover—or find for the first time—the authentic, healthy, strong person you and your loved ones deserve.

My values

01

Authenticity

I show up as the real me in our sessions, giving you the permission be the real you, in all your messiness. Vulnerability—taking off our mask, stepping out of hiding, and allowing ourselves to be seen for who we really are—is scary. It is also essential to wholeness, well-being, and fulfillment. Discovering the unique, authentic you is the beginning of loving yourself.

02

Connection

Connecting deeply with other people (and yourself) is a fundamental human need, nearly as critical as oxygen or water. Relationships in which we are known, valued, supported, and accepted have an immense impact on our mood and stress level. Our sessions will nurture your capacity to experience the closeness and belonging you require to thrive.

03

Self-Trust

The ability to act on our own values and interests is crucial to creating a fulfilling, meaningful life. When we compare ourselves, make decisions to please others, or second-guess our own thoughts and feelings we give our power away. I will help you to trust your gut, use your voice, and discover where you end and others begin—allowing you to design your own life with intention and authority.
