Trauma Therapy for Adults

Trauma doesn’t always look like trauma.

Some experiences are obviously traumatic.

Others are harder to name.

You grew up learning to watch other people closely. You became responsible early. There wasn’t much room for your feelings. You learned to keep the peace, stay small, be useful, succeed, or handle things on your own.

Or you went through relationships or experiences later in life that changed the way you see yourself, other people, or the world.

You adapted.

And long after the situation changed, those adaptations can keep running.

Trauma therapy helps you understand what you learned to do to survive — and begin choosing something different.

The past has a way of showing up in the present.

It can look like overthinking every interaction. Feeling responsible for everyone else's feelings. Struggling to say no. Distrusting yourself. Staying on alert even when nothing is wrong.

You can know intellectually that you're safe and still not feel safe.

You can understand exactly why you behave a certain way and still find yourself doing it.

You can tell yourself something wasn't a big deal while your body reacts as though it was.

That doesn't mean you're failing to move on.

It means some part of you is still responding to what it learned before.

Therapy is about more than understanding what happened.

We'll make sense of your patterns, but we won't stop there.

My approach is warm, relational, and trauma-focused. We may talk, notice patterns, work with what is happening in your body and nervous system, or use EMDR when it fits the work we're doing.

There isn't one formula.

The goal is to help you feel less governed by fear, guilt, self-doubt, old relationship patterns, and the constant need to manage what happens around you.

The past will always be part of your story. It doesn't have to keep deciding how you live it.
